gpv is just me.

Gabriel or G. Formally announced as Gabriel Paul Vernon on my first and last days.

When I describe my work as purpose-driven, it means that I’ve chosen clients and work that address a clear need and I personally identify value in the outcomes for them, myself, and our community. There’s also purpose in how I produce the work — I do my best to keep creative and messaging lean and intentional. Every element has its place and we collaborate to deliver products that will build trust and help an audience engage.

I had what I believe was a strange start but it has culminated in a unique voice. Illustration was my first love and, once I learned that my strengths needed more direction, I made a lateral bound to design. Developing that experience came with some lessons — the primary one being that I excel with in-house teams. Jumping from the east coast to the west and back, digital products became a source of motivation that drove me to become self-educated in front-end development.

These realizations have resulted in the work you’ve seen here. It’s a cross-section of brand-focused design, bold typography, practical digital experiences, and thoughtful strategy.

Capabilities

I produce results in these areas

01.

Art direction

Building a vision to fit the needs of a partner or product. I focus on goals set forth in a brief and strive to execute concepts that will deliver on clear KPIs. Additionally, I honor and improve upon brand identities that make products instantly recognizable.

03.

Strategy and messaging

Researching trends that resonate and aligning communication with target audiences. By providing input on briefs and overseeing existing materials, I map core ideas to potential messages.

02.

Digital products

Crafting intuitive experiences that meet user needs and leave positive impressions with proven UI patterns. I aim to understand the intentions of the user and engage in research practices that inform content, structure, and performance. My knowledge in FEWD also enables me in being a liaison with dev teams.

04.

Project management

Identifying needs across a team and structuring timelines that intersect with crucial milestones. I work backwards from final deliverable dates to build schedules that satisfy expectations, negotiate with partners to improve the product, and manage the legwork in removing barriers.

Close-up of Gabriel Vernon screen printing

GPV Design also produces graphic and fine art prints that reflect the converging of professional design aesthetic and studies in screen printing.

While trying to reconcile the principles of illustration and design, I romanticized 90s gig posters and the craft of screen printing. After 20 years of career development, I went back to the studio to bring studies in flowing shapes, gestural lines, and dismantled typography to life (along with a few other fun additions). This work represents me as an artist waking up – unassuming works born from the act of sketching without thinking. I find beauty in the intersection of forms that build upon neighboring elements. The serigraphy limited editions are available in my shop.
